Every client is unique and each treatment plan is unique. While your treatment plan will be tailored to your specific needs and goals, some of your general goals for therapy might include:
- Improving intimacy in relationships and improving your communication skills
- Increasing your sense of self-worth and your capacity to celebrate your unique gifts and talents
- Building healthy coping mechanisms to help you manage stress effectively
- Developing the skills to move out of depression
- Learn relaxation techniques and learn how to use positive self-talk when you’re anxious
- Learning to grieve loss constructively and work through past and present hurts
We’ll begin your journey by getting to know each another. During the intake, we’ll discuss your family history and the previous challenges you’ve faced, and I’ll assess the current issues that are troubling you.
We’ll identify the obstacles that are blocking your path to contentment and develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals. I’ll provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore past hurts and current hardships, work through your feelings, and work toward an optimistic and peaceful future. It’s always my hope that trust will develop early in our relationship. Trust is an essential component of successful therapy.
My style is collaborative, and always focused on empowering you to make good choices – now, and for the rest of your life. While success is ultimately up to you, I’ll guide the psychotherapy process, and support you as you make important changes in your life – both large and small. In other words, I’ll help you learn how to help yourself.
The most effective therapies are those which revolve around client choice and participation. Our sessions will motivate you to actively participate in – and take responsibility for – ‘getting better.’ In addition, the more you can do to help yourself, the greater your odds of long-term success.
As our work progresses, you’ll learn to connect your feelings to your thoughts and behaviors, and ultimately, connect those thoughts and behaviors to the current issues in your life that are troubling you.
Finally, you’ll be equipped to pinpoint the patterns of behavior that are creating strife in your life and identify the real problems and their underlying causes. You’ll learn how to cope with life’s challenges, and build emotional resilience that will see you through future challenges.
Creating the life you want is a process, like learning to ride a bicycle. Much like learning to ride a bicycle, you will not forget what you learn in our sessions. And with a little practice, you’ll become a much better rider.
