Do you offer therapy in person and online?
Yes. I provide the option of both in-person and virtual counseling. Depending on your individual needs, we can determine which therapy plan is better suited to help you.
How long do counseling sessions last? What is your cancellation policy?
All therapy is done in private individual sessions, 45 minutes, once per week, between the hours of 9-3:00 pm Tuesday-Thursday. I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Exceptions are made for illness or emergencies.
What can I expect in the first session?
I view our first session as an opportunity for us to get to know each other. As you tell me about the current issues that are bringing you to therapy, I will help you make sense of why you are feeling stuck, any underlying issues that may be contributing to the problem, and we can together begin to formulate some goals and brainstorm the outcomes you are expecting from therapy.
I’ve never been to therapy before. How can I know who to trust?
Educate yourself and ask lots of questions. I always tell people to trust their instincts. Similar to choosing a good doctor or lawyer, you would ask friends and family for referrals, do your research, but ultimately you would need to feel comfortable with the person and believe that they are the right person to help you.
What are the benefits of therapy?
People that I work with have told me that they notice a marked improvement in emotional health and well being. This translates into a higher self-confidence, productivity and better relationships. People begin to feel more comfortable with themselves and feel “unstuck” due to their increased self awareness which results in positive changes in their lives.
I’m afraid that if I start therapy, I will be in it forever. Is that true?
You are in charge of the therapy and you will make decisions around your treatment. I will make recommendations based on your presenting issues, but it will be important for you to participate in developing your treatment plan. Initially, I set goals with clients for a three-month time frame. At that point, we’ll evaluate your progress and goals, and determine if you want to continue in therapy or whether you feel you’re ready to terminate.
Therapy is so expensive. How do I know the investment will be worth it?
You don’t, initially. However, I have never had a client say that their financial investment wasn’t worth their emotional/relational reward. For most people, progress and growth is felt quickly and deeply, so they begin to see the money as symbolic in the sense that by spending the money, they are investing in themselves. How can you put a price tag on increased personal happiness, greater sense of purpose, higher self-worth, and better relationships?
